Tuning Devices and Their Types

Tuning is one of the main challenges for string instrument students. A beginner student cannot tune alone without needing any device. For the exercises to be effective and correct, the guitar must be perfectly in tune. The student may not always be able to go to the teacher. The guitar may need tuning on days other than lessons. For this, there are some tuning devices.

A-Tuner Whistle: When blown, it only produces the A note.

Multiple Whistle: It has a few blowing holes and produces notes like A - G - E - B.Digital Needle Tuner: It works with batteries and detects any sound in the environment. When you turn the tuning peg of the guitar, it alerts you with a signal when it reaches the desired note. And it is very practical.Tuning with a Phone's Dial Tone: The dial tone of landline phones always produces an A note. You can tune with a nearby phone when you can't find any tuning device. With the Help of Computer Programs: All string instruments, including classical guitars, can be tuned with some programs that run on a PC.

How to Tune a Guitar?

A guitar has 6 strings. If we count the lowest string as the 1st string, the notes are: 1st E, 2nd B, 3rd G, 4th D, 5th A, 6th E. Let's start tuning from the lowest string. Therefore, we will find the E note. The Western equivalent of the E note is the E symbol. Turn on the tuner. Take the guitar in your hand. While turning the tuning peg of the lowest string with your left hand, strike the string with your right hand. When the needle on the tuner points to the E symbol, the tuning of the lowest string is complete. You can then apply the process sequentially to the other strings.
