How Algorithms Work
Algorithms, in a general sense, are a flowchart, a sequence of operations to solve a problem. When viewed from the perspective of search engine optimization and search engines, it refers to how the system operates. For example, phrases like "Google's algorithm has changed" or "Google has developed a new algorithm" are frequently heard and seen. However, phrases like "Google has developed a new algorithm" are particularly misused.
This is because, from an algorithmic standpoint, search engines or other systems operate based on a single algorithm. The algorithm encompasses the entirety of a system. Developments or innovations made by search engines afterward are not new algorithms but rather paths and procedures integrated into the algorithm. For example, it's an update to Penguin or Panda, not a new algorithm.Search Engine Optimization Algorithms
During search engine optimization efforts, one should not fall under the impression that search engine algorithms operate through only one method. This is because search engine algorithms have dozens of different ranking and listing methods. For instance, backlinks, domain (domain name), domain age, keywords, content, design, programming, site speed, and many more criteria can be cited as examples.
Therefore, when conducting SEO work, one should not focus on just one of these criteria but should carry out the work by considering all criteria. For example, while working on backlinks (links, promotional articles), content should also be created properly, keywords should be used appropriately, the site structure should be optimized, or other criteria should be met. The criteria or processes within search engine algorithms must be implemented appropriately and correctly.
